Termites are small but terrible pests. They have been known to cause substantial property damage everywhere in the world. In the U.S., termites cause over 5 billion dollars in property damage annually. Because they are barely noticeable in size, termite infestation and damage in your home can go unnoticed until it is too late.

Finding out more about them can help you detect and prevent them from causing costly damages to your home. Termites bear similarities to flying ants but instead of having 3 distinctive body parts, a termite only has 2. The most common signs of termite infestation are sawdust-like droppings (called “frass”), discarded wings, or mud tubes leading from the ground up the side of the foundation. Other visible signs may include cracked or bubbling paint and wood construction that sounds hollow when tapped. Check for termite colonies in wooden structures especially those that are moist and close to the ground.
