Joshua’s Gives Back: Surf Dog Surf-a-Thon

Joshua’s Gives Back: Surf Dog Surf-a-Thon

On September 8th, Joshua’s Pest Control in San Diego had the privilege of being one of the sponsors of the 14th annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon in Del Mar, California. And yes, it was as awesome as it sounds! The event was hosted by the Helen Woodward Animal Center, and they sure know how to put on a show.

Three, two, one, and the contestants were off!

With ears flapping in the wind and a trail of paw prints in the sand, the dogs arrived at the waves with eagerness and excitement. Pups of all sizes jumped on their surfboards with the dream of being crowned Best in Surf 2019. The real challenge began as the dogs were positioned on their surfboards. It takes balance and poise to ride a wave all the way to the sand, but after weeks of preparation, these canines were ready!

Each dog participating in the competition was accompanied to the surf by their human companions, but the dogs rode the waves alone. The animal center even had surf training for the dogs weeks before the competition to give all newbie surfers a chance to practice. The event was well organized and divided into multiple size classes: extra small dogs, small dogs, medium dogs, large dogs, and extra-large dogs. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners were selected from each size group. Three dogs were then selected from the winners for overall Best in Surf. This year the well-deserved 1st place prize for Best in Surf went to Faith, the surfing pitbull. The event was a delight for everyone who participated, but it was clear that no one enjoyed it more than our canine friends!

At Joshua’s Pest Control, we love our pets, and we were thrilled to be a part of such an awesome event in support of the Helen Woodward Animal Center. The center is an impressive non-profit organization in San Diego that supplies a wide variety of services to both people and animals alike. The animal center provides love and care to thousands of dogs and cats and finds them happy homes. In addition to their adoptive services, the animal center also focuses on education and community awareness. They provide training for shelters across the United States to teach other organizations how to run shelters that save lives. The Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon event is just one of many that the organization puts on throughout the year. Later this month, they are hosting a camp for kids who want to learn about veterinary services and interact with animals. We look forward to continuing to work with the Helen Woodward Animal Center in the future to support the awesome work they’re doing in our community!
