Our Team-Up with STEAM Maker Workshop at the San Diego County Fair
Once again, we joined forces with the great STEAM Maker Workshop.
STEAM Maker Workshop is an organization that works to teach, both students and teachers about science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
This past October, we had the awesome opportunity to work with them in hosting a booth at the San Diego STEAM Maker Festival. This time around, we partnered at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar. We set up a booth in the Family Funville area during the educational days of the fair. Over 4000 kids took field trips to the fair with early entry, 2 hours before it opened. In the education area, the children participated in different science, technology, engineering, arts and math activities. Because the theme of this year’s fair is “Mad About The Fair,” themed around Alice and Wonderland, our booth offered a variety of cardboard cut-outs of teacups for the Mad Hatter’s tea party. We gave our stickers and offered art supplies for the kids to color and decorate the teacups anyway they liked. From our booth, they were directed to another station and given the opportunity to build a car out of food and nails before racing it against the competition. At another station, they attached parachutes to their newly decorated tea-cups and then launched them out of a cannon.
We had a blast working with the kids. It was a ton of fun watching kids from kindergarten through 12th grade coloring and designing their teacups just the way they wanted. Our volunteers love doing events like this because it’s always inspiring to hang out with these curious children and watch their creativity blossom.
Another highlight of the event was when we had a few of our Joshua’s customers go out of their way to come up and say, “Hi!” to us.
Thank you STEAM Maker Workshop for allowing us to join you at the San Diego County Fair, we hope we get to work with you again soon.
